Restoring Heritage — £250,000 to Reinvigorate Swindon’s Cricketers Building


Here’s a vivid snapshot of the historic Cricketers building in Swindon’s Railway Village—a key landmark now undergoing a heartfelt revival.



Swindon’s beloved Cricketers building—a Grade II listed former pub nestled in the heart of the Railway Village—has received a significant boost: £250,000 from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to continue its restoration for community use. What’s Next: Breathing Life into the Ground Floor


Following the completion of external repairs—such as window replacements and structural reinforcement—funded by Historic England, attention has now  

turned inward. The £250,000 grant supports conservation of the bar, kitchen, toilet facilities, and storage rooms on the ground floor. This work builds on the restoration of the lounge, basement, and utilities completed during 2024 Swindon Heritage Preservation+1swindonlink.com.

A Vision for Heritage and Community
